I found this spot along my favorite river, the James. My mood matched the almost monochromatic gray-brown of the woods. I felt vulnerable, like my mistakes were dragging me under, permanently. I was on my way back to my car when this tree at the river’s edge caught my eye. The tree’s roots hold this corner of land together so the grass can flourish there, no fear of being washed away. “Do not fear, Your enemies are My enemies, and I fight for you.” Suddenly the sun turned a gray December afternoon into dazzling hope.
